Pruning off the rootstock and tutoring
May 13, 2001 Scion sprouts reach over 70 cm (28 inches) in height 60 days after budding, and the rootstock stem above the bud union is pruned off. Eliminated plant parts are removed from the nursery area and the scion stems staked for tutoring. |

Scion stems are tied to metal stakes for tutoring. Therefore, at 60
days after budding, the new citrus plants already show the scion top with the
commercial variety intended for propagation, over a root system from Rangpur lime, a
rootstock which induces high productivity, and disease and drought tolerance.
