Wrapping and Storage of the Trees

Root ball over biodegradable burlap wrap

October 01 2001

Uprooted plants are immediately wrapped in biodegradable cloth. This wrap is ideal because it allows for easy handling of the trees and facilitates irrigation of the root balls during storage. In addition, there is no need to remove the wrap before planting. This allows for minimal disturbance of the root system, which in turn significantly improves the rate of survival.
After uprooting and wrapping , the plants are stored for 2 to 3 weeks over concrete decks for perfect healing of the cuts in the root system. The storage decks are located under full sun light, at ca. 30 cm (12 inches) over the ground. This provides optimal drainage and aeration conditions for the stabilization of the root system in the soil balls. By the time the trees are taken to the field, the roots have already begun to grow again, their healthy extremities many times being noticeable crossing the wrap.
The trees are thus planted under minimal stress and reach maximum survival, with immediate development in the field.

Wrapping rope is also biodegradable
