One way of inarching a citrus tree is to connect a second
rootstock directly to the main rootstock instead of the scion. The scion,
therefore, is budded onto the main rootstock and the second rootstock
is utilized as an auxiliary to the main one. An example of the method can be
seen in the top figure of the gallery on the left.
The
first results of this type of inarching have been excellent.
The plants are Valencia on Swingle citrumelo with rangpur
lime (limao cravo) as the inarch. The figures in the lower
part of the gallery show the rootstock unions and a tree at
3 years of age.
The
main rootstock in this type of inarching should be the one
resistant to diseases, for instance, Swingle citrumelo,
while rangpur lime is indicated as the inarch to contribute
with vigor, precocity, productivity, and drought resistance.
This method is called "SLAVE STOCK" in our nursery since the
second-rootstock's main function is to help the primary
rootstock. |
