Advantages of
Citrolima Nursery Trees |
SEEDS Originate from Citrolima's Certified Mother Plants, inspected by the Agricultural Secretariat. All rootstocks are available with origin and true-to-typeness certified. All seeds are graded, thermically treated and peeled before sowing, preventing disease transmission. In addition, new rootstock varieties are constantly produced through breeding. All important commercial rootstock varieties are intercrossed in attempts to combine their qualities into new varieties. New promising rootstocks are being continuously tested. |

ROOTSTOCKS
We use DIRECT SOWING of rootstock seeds into the final
container where the plants are produced, avoiding the use of small
containers followed by transplanting. Two to 3 seeds are sown per container
and the best plant, true-to-type and free of defects is allowed to develop.
Direct sowing prevents crowding at the root collar, lateral root
encircling, and main root branching and curling which are caused by the
conventional methods of transplanting and using polybags. As a result, root
system quality is excellent. The main root is strong and vigorous. Lateral
roots are not spiraled. The trees are more vigorous and more resistant to
the wind and to drought.
BUDWOOD Originates from Certified Budwood Blocks at Citrolima, inspected by the Agricultural Secretariat. They represent the best clones available of all commercial varieties, shoot-tip grafted to clean systemic diseases and pre-immunized against the Tristeza virus. Productivity and fruit quality are monitored by planting representative plants from each lot in our clonal arboretum. Only material that originates uniform, vigorous and productive plants with good quality fruit and no genetic variations are kept as budwood blocks. In addition, we constantly develop new varieties through 3 methods: breeding, selection of seedlings, and clone rejuvenation. We have several new varieties being tested at the moment with good potential for commercial utilization in the future. |
